Case Study 3

A disabled bathroom which looks as impressive as it is functional.

Conversion to Disable BathroomDue to an accident which left them in a wheelchair, our customer was left with a choice of moving to a new, ready-adapted home, or carrying out work on the home they had occupied for some years. This home not only had many happy memories for them, but was also ideally located and had a lovely garden. For these reasons, they chose the latter, though with the proviso that conversion would be easily reversible should they ever wish to sell.

Attention to DetailThe bathroom requirement, additionally, had to maximise the independence of the person using it, whilst not compromising on nice design features.

Accessible BathroomWe came up with this solution which allowed access without expensive lifts by exploiting the idea of a wet area. In close consultation with the customer, we were also able to use a fairly standard bathroom suite, adapted for height and other accessibility requirements and use special fittings and grab rails to comply with their requirements.

Bathroom ConversionBecause we used standard furniture as far as possible, this minimised cost, and maximised its aesthetic appeal, whilst fulfilling the customers other need to be easily reversible should they ever decide to move.

Our work didn't stop at the bathroom for this project, though for the purposes of this case study we have concentrated on this feature. We also widened downstairs doorways for wheelchair access and extended to the rear of the property to allow adapted living space. This included a garage conversion into a bedroom, study and bathroom plus additional kitchen and lounge space.
